Despite the difficult time Rhuigi Villaseñor is having, he continues to deliver a RHUDE collection that is personal to him. The Filipino-American presents his latest Spring/Summer 2024 just a little over two months after he announced his exit from Bally as their creative director. Just last week, he was also accused of “mishandling funds” by RHUDE’s stakeholders.
The collection, titled “A Dream Within A Dream,” is dedicate to the aspirations he had as a child. Trying to find his version of the American Dream, Rhuigi sets out to dig deep into the moments in fashion and in culture that have shaped how he has grown to be as a designer. While the show aesthetic was encapsulating, with models presenting the collection in a private garden, the collection lacked flair with the designs. Albeit classic, with well-proportioned tailoring and movement focused pieces, the collection featured standard RHUDE pull overs, beach shorts and blazers. The fabrics were undoubtedly expensive, coming in colors of navy and cream, mixed in with sky blue and strawberry red. Different from last June, where his show as vibrant with splashes of orange and green, this collection evidently took inspiration from classic American luxury sportswear like Tommy Hilfiger and Ralph Lauren.
Rhuigi continues to find his stride in luxury varsity as he focuses on the foundation of his brand and where he hopes to grow RHUDE as a lifestyle brand and more.
